Abstract:Rural people face with a high level of risk due to their low income and weak capability to prevent risks. Insurance companies in Shanxi initiated the distribution channel and products and services for microinsurance in order to fill up the vacancy of insurance protection there. Their practices have shown that, to develop microinsurance, insurers should take into account the unique socioeconomic environment in rural markets, enhance local people′s insurance awareness gradually, and display the role and function of microinsurance by getting integrated into the rural fraternity system.
