On the strength of its key products, the enterprise can gain a leadership position of these products and certain service areas, and create various new markets unexpected previously. This is where the competitive advantage of an enterprise comes from. Chinese life insurers must cultivate and enhance their own core competence in order to maintain their strong hold in the increasingly internationalized market with intensifying competition. Embedded value can be used to measure an insurer’s core competence and promote its sustainable growth. Insurers can enhance their core competence by establishing a platform for resources sharing, therefore supporting life insurers’ diversification into other fields. They can also strengthen their core competence by improving their corporate governance structure and internal control system.
